Private Darkroom sessions
Private Darkroom Printing Workshops

WHAT TO EXPECT
Learn how to print your photographs on baryta paper — the same traditional process used for fine-art prints held in major museum collections.
Whether you are printing for the first time or refining an existing body of work, each session is fully tailored to your needs. You will be guided throughout the experience by a professional artist and master printer.
Every session is shaped around you.
Ithaque Darkroom
Welcome & Introduction to Ithaque
The session begins with a tour of our exhibition space and darkroom with Alexandre Arminjon, master printer and director of Ithaque, followed by a discussion of your negatives and artistic intentions. A moment to understand your vision before entering the darkroom
Introduction to the Darkroom
Getting familiar with the enlarger and darkroom tools. Your master printer will guide you step by step through the process: understanding the equipment and techniques, reading the negative, calculating exposure, and selecting the paper. Every decision is made together, at your own pace.
Printing: The Heart of the Session
You will make your prints one-on-one with the master printer — from exposure and development to stop bath and fixing. The number of prints depends on your experience and the time available, with each print carefully worked on until the desired result is achieved.
Drying & Hot Pressing
Your prints are dried and hot-pressed, following the traditional silver gelatin printing process.
Review & Analysis
The session concludes with a discussion of your prints — reviewing the technical and artistic choices made during the process and considering ways to develop the work further. Once dry, your photographs can be collected from the gallery or shipped to you a few days later.
Please note before your session: your negatives must be developed before you arrive. The session is entirely dedicated to darkroom printing. If your film has not yet been developed, please have it processed by a photo lab before booking.
