A Unique Space for Creation and Exhibition
Ithaque is a space dedicated to artistic creation and exhibition, founded by Alexandre Arminjon in 2020 with the mission of preserving and passing on the expertise and savoir-faire of analogue photography. Located in the heart of the Marais, this hybrid space comprises two distinct areas. The first hosts photographic exhibitions. Open to diverse practices and cultures, Ithaque’s programme seeks to present photography in all its forms. The second houses two darkrooms dedicated to black-and-white analogue printing.
Since 2022, Ithaque has offered analogue photography workshops for young audiences across the Île-de-France region. As part of the bicentenary of photography, Ithaque was awarded the French Ministry of Culture’s official label for its educational photography workshops. Alongside these activities, the charity Les Amis d’Ithaque supports Ithaque’s photography workshops and artist residencies. It has been officially recognised as an organisation of general interest by the French tax authorities.
Above all, Ithaque is a place for encounters, creation and conviviality. To share the magic of the image emerging in the darkroom, Ithaque organises exclusive events, private evenings and workshops, all imbued with the distinctive atmosphere of the darkroom.

Alexandre Arminjon is a French-Swiss photographer born in 1984. He has been working with photography since 2013.
After participating in several exhibitions at Galerie Agathe Gaillard, he became, in 2018, the youngest of the 14 nominees for the Prix Niépce at the Bibliothèque nationale de France (BnF). This body of work has since entered the collections of the Bibliothèque nationale de France and was presented in 2023 in Épreuves de la matière, an exhibition organised by the institution. In 2021, he was one of four finalists for the Florence and Damien Bachelot Print Prize.
In March 2023, he was invited to present his series of Iranian portraits at the French National Assembly on the occasion of International Women’s Rights Day. The exhibition was subsequently presented at the Tehran Artists’ House. Several of his Iranian portraits have been acquired by the Neuflize OBC Foundation, the BnF and private collections.
